On the morning of May 21, the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security forcibly removed the pro-Palestine encampment on the Diag. According to Ann Arbor Police Department dispatch records, the University called AAPD to request “a unit or two to help clear out” the encampment at 6:34 a.m. The encampment sweep followed repeated instances of police violence against pro-Palestine protesters on campus, including during a sit-in at the Alexander G.

Karla Mallette, chair of Middle East Studies, announced in an email to faculty and graduate students on Feb. 7 that the department will not be recommending Prof. Yaron Eliav for promotion to full professor. According to the email, the official decision on Eliav’s promotion will not be finalized until the LSA Institute for the Humanities Executive Committee and the LSA Executive Committee review Eliav’s case, and the department’s decision can be overturned.

The University of Michigan’s Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX Office has found Robert Stephenson, a professor in the School of Nursing, responsible for violations of the University’s sexual misconduct policy for allegedly sexually harassing two Nursing students on multiple occasions, according to a Nov. 13 report obtained by The Michigan Daily.
