Lawmakers in New Jersey have agreed to an increase in the tax rate, totaling 19.75% for online gaming, which is lower than what was initially proposed. It was earlier this year when Gov Phil Murphy suggested the state’s tax rate on sports betting should be raised to 25%. At the time, it was reported this would result in an extra $402.4 million in revenue for the state. Now though, the lower rate has been agreed on, with online sports betting currently at 13% and internet gambling at 15%.

The Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) of Sri Lanka has given approval for the importation of casino machines, with previous restrictions removed. The creation of a special mechanism to monitor the importation has been directed to be set up too, with this coming at a time when the country is moving towards modernizing its gaming market. A A$300 million ($195 million) rescue package has been approved by Star Entertainment Group’s shareholders this week (June 25), which will allow Australia’s Star Sydney casino to remain open. This comes after The Star announced it had entered into a binding term sheet with Bally’s for a strategic investment back in April. It’s this US company that is leading the rescue bid. Now that a deal has been approved, the casino is able to remain operational.

A researcher has found that one out of 19 non-profit organizations and entity domains (.NGO and .ONG) are possibly associated with gambling. Jim Yan, who published the findings recently, questioned whether those domains are losing their trust due to the results. The police in Kosovo have been cracking down on illegal gambling, with 22 premises having been closed down since April. The focus has been on the organization of pyramid schemes and illegal gambling, with 19 people reported to have been arrested. According to the local news publisher Kossev, the last operation was carried out in the city and largest municipality of Kosovo, known as Podujevo.
