The government mustn’t sit on the report it’s received from the NHS pay review body but should put health workers out of their misery and confirm this year’s wage rise, says UNISON today (Tuesday). The report containing the pay review body’s recommendations for the 2025/26 increase was handed to ministers at the end of last week, says the union. Health workers should’ve had this year’s wage rise two weeks ago.

Commenting on the latest Home Office asylum and visa figures published today (Thursday), UNISON head of social care Gavin Edwards said:“Workers from overseas are propping up the UK’s social care sector. They play a vital role in delivering care to elderly and disabled people who’d otherwise struggle to get the help they need. The care sector is desperately short of staff. “People who come to the UK to fill skilled jobs in care homes and in the community should be treated with respect.

Commenting on the government’s announcement today (Friday) that an independent commission on social care will begin in April headed up by Baroness Louise Casey, UNISON head of care Gavin Edwards said:“Long-term neglect has left social care with a workforce crisis. The fragmented, profit-driven sector is unable to deliver for the hundreds of thousands of people who are in need. The sooner pay and standards are reformed, the better.

The government’s plans to limit wage rises across the NHS to 2.8% next year will go down badly with staff already facing a hellish winter, says UNISON today (Tuesday). The decision to delay talks on the promised modernisation of NHS pay scales until the second half of next year isn’t helpful, says UNISON. Similarly, insisting the cost of pay reform must be deducted from the pot available for the 2025/26 annual wage rise will hit workforce morale, says the union.

Councils are being asked to pledge their support for a national care service for England in a campaign launched today (Tuesday) by UNISON. The union is urging councillors across England to back a motion it has drawn up that calls for the urgent reform of social care, including the introduction of a fair pay agreement for staff.

The tyranny of WhatsApp dates and plans. Landline calls may be last century. But that’s what I’m ‘scheduling’ in 2025. And just ‘hanging out’. https://t.co/zFuq1JqkLp

Human health vs the environment. Eating mackerel linked to lower heart disease risk. But it's overfished. And electric toothbrushes fight tooth decay. Yet they're adding to landfill burden #environment #hearthealth #toothdecay
