The regional organisations are working hard to try and find a lasting solution to the current conflict in the DRC. The M23 group has announced that it is willing to engage in peace talks. The government of the DRC has ruled out a possibility of engaging with the M23.

The process of bringing the injured members of the SANDF has been a difficult one. The M23 is insisting that the only route that will be cleared for evacuation will be through the Rwandan border. SA was not keen to go through Rwanda fearing humiliation by the Rwandan authorities.

Last week, nine South African National Defence Force members were killed when the M23 was advancing towards Goma. In the discussion, Ramaphosa and Kagame agreed that a ceasefire must resume and peace negotiations must begin.
