JJ’s Turkish Barbers has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of ten finalists in its ‘Best Barber Shop 2025’ award. The shop was established by JJ Tengiz in 2010 when it was in Botchergate. Now, JJ runs the barbers from a unit inside Willowholme Industrial Estate.

A special ‘Archaeological Finds Day’ event will be held in the Penrith and Eden Museum at 42 Middlegate on Saturday, July 26. From 11am until 3pm people will be able to have their items identified and recorded by the region’s Portable Antiquities Scheme Finds Liaison Officer.

They posted on social media today (Thursday, June 26) that fraudsters are targeting people in Cumbria. Cumbria Police wrote: “We would urge people to always be on their guard against scam phone calls from fraudsters. “Sometimes the fraudsters pretend to be officials, such as bank fraud teams, police officers or HMRC officials.

Police officer (Image: Newsquest) A MAN in his 20s was seriously injured after a crash in Carlisle. Cumbria Police is appealing for witnesses after a crash between a van and a pedestrian in Prescott Road, Carlisle. The incident occurred at around 9:15am on Tuesday, June 24. The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital after suffering serious head injuries. They are not believed to be life-threatening. The vehicle involved was a white Ford Transit van.
