An e-bike user who hit a jogger on a shared footpath in Swords has pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving and been fined €250. At Dublin District Court on Wednesday, Judge Anthony Halpin ruled that Stephen Dunne would be spared a road ban because he requires a driving licence in caring for his three children. The judge ordered him to pay a fine of €250 within 12 months.

Annabelle Smith is used to seeing a look of surprise on passengers’ faces when they step on to her bus. Generally, people are happy to see a woman Dublin Bus driver, she says. “Most of the older ladies say, ‘Wow, a woman driving, that’s really good,’ and then say I should meet their grandson. I politely explain I’m married. The teenage girls ask, ‘How do you drive such a big bus? You’re so tiny, the steering wheel is bigger than you,’ adds the five-foot bus driver with a smile.

Scam advertisements claiming to represent independently run, Irish-owned clothes shops are increasingly tricking consumers into purchasing items they believe are locally produced. Last week, The Irish Times featured the woes of a reader called Alison who bought what she thought was an outfit from a shop she believed was in Kildare only for the outfit to arrive in the wrong size and all the way from China.

The number of people travelling from Ireland to the US dropped by 27 per cent in March when compared to the same month last year, figures show. The number of European visitors to the US has dropped notably, with Ireland representing one of the highest decreases from the European Continent, the latest data from the US International Trade Administration (ITA) agency show. Irish visitor numbers to the US fell by 26.9 per cent last month when compared to March 2024, the ITA figures show.
