The figures include 69 rescues and 30 deaths from the start of 2025, a senior zoo official said on Wednesday. Out of 69 rescues made since the start of the year, 30 died due to various reasons, with the zoo recording a survival rate of just 56%.

Guwahati: A 29-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on Wednesday morning. The investigating officer on the case said prima facie it appears to be suicide though further details are likely to emerge after the postmortem report arrives. The officer said, "The body had already been pulled down by the family members when our team arrived. Initial investigation suggests it was suicide.

BSF seizes Yaba tablets valued at 36L

Guwahati: Border Security Force (BSF) seized 7,200 Yaba tablets and 50 grams of suspected narcotic substance at the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Dhubri district of Assam on Tuesday. Approximately Rs 36 lakh worth of drugs were seized in the search operation carried out by border patrol troops of the 150 Bn of the BSF under Guwahati frontier, who acted on intelligence inputs. A source at BSF Guwahati told TOI that three to four individuals were at the scene when the patrolmen arrived.
GMC steps up efforts to clean city

Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has stepped up its efforts to clean the city ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. In addition to the ongoing Guwahati Swachhata Abhiyan, the civic body is putting in additional efforts to sweep, dust, remove stainsin pulic places and water plants on dividers, said GMC assistant commissioner on Monday. He said sweeping machines are being deployed across the city, covering nearly 300 kilometers of streets and main roads as the business summit nears.

ASVA president Chandan Goswami termed the drives unlawful and said legitimate vendors were being harassed. "In the last few days, the GMC has demolishing street-side stalls at night. They are taking away our livelihood and are also not taking any responsibility.
