(WOWK) — Just hours after severe storms slammed across the area, a flood watch is already out for parts of the region for expected heavy rain that should start very late Wednesday night through Sunday. The watch includes many of the counties in West Virginia near the Ohio River as well as northeast Kentucky and all of southern Ohio. A stalled front will wobble back and forth over the region for several days before finally moving through the region.

The area stays warm in the 70s until a cold front brings strong storms to the area at the end of the weekend. The area is included in a 15% risk for severe storms for Sunday March 30 as listed by the Storm Prediction Center.

(WOWK) — Spring started at 5:01 a.m. Wednesday morning (March 20) and after near record highs the previous day in the low 80s, colder air is here and there should be snow in the high terrain of West Virginia. As noted in the video that accompanies this story, the real reason we mark the change in season is the position of the sun’s direct rays as they now travel across the Equator and into the Northern Hemisphere. Warmer days follow the “extra boost” from the sun.
