CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame is taking nominations for its 2025 Class.
A flood watch has been issued for parts of West Virginia, northeast Kentucky and southern Ohio due to expected heavy rain from late Wednesday night through Sunday, with weather models calling for 2 inches to 4 inches of rain in the area.

(WOWK) — Just hours after severe storms slammed across the area, a flood watch is already out for parts of the region for expected heavy rain that should start very late Wednesday night through Sunday. The watch includes many of the counties in West Virginia near the Ohio River as well as northeast Kentucky and all of southern Ohio. A stalled front will wobble back and forth over the region for several days before finally moving through the region.
Severe storms are expected to hit the region at the end of the weekend, with strong winds and more than an inch of rain forecasted, according to the Storm Prediction Center and weather models.

(WOWK) — An overall warmup starts slowly Wednesday and Thursday before the region hits the 70s for afternoon highs. The area stays warm in the 70s until a cold front brings strong storms to the area at the end of the weekend. The area is included in a 15% risk for severe storms for Sunday March 30 as listed by the Storm Prediction Center.
Spring officially started at 5:01 a.m. on Wednesday, and the weather outlook for April, May, and June calls for a warmer-than-normal and wetter-than-normal season.

As noted in the video that accompanies this story, the real reason we mark the change in season is the position of the sun’s direct rays as they now travel across the Equator and into the Northern Hemisphere. Warmer days follow the “extra boost” from the sun.

A very large area of low pressure will develop and spread across the middle part of the United States moving generally from the Texas Panhandle to the Midwest. However the wind field due to the strength of the low will extend hundreds of miles from this low pressure center.

(WOWK) — Cold air is racing into the WOWK-TV viewing area along with snow Sunday afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place with various expiration times. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday for parts of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and West Virginia. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and wind gusts up to 40 mph could create slippery road conditions.

Hard hit regions of southern West Virginia have already seen historic levels on the Tug Fork, Levisa Fork and Panther Creek. We will show you National Weather Service data as of Sunday morning 2/16/25. Forecasts are revised in real time here. New data Sunday morning shows the Tug Fork has crested at Litwar and will be cresting Sunday downriver in Williamson and areas further downstream.
