Team USA curling is not particularly in a good spot. Led by Duluth’s Korey Dropkin, Team USA finished 11th in the curling World Championships over the weekend, falling short of an Olympic qualification. The men received three points for 2025, meaning they missed the cutoff by one. There is still a chance for team USA however. Both the men’s and women’s teams can still be Olympic bound if they finish in the top two of an international last-chance tournament in December in British Columbia.

The NBC Spartan Sports Complex was full of Superior Spartan runs, as the Spartans baseball team used a ferocious comeback to beat Grand Rapids 6-5, while the Superior softball team ran away with things early, winning 18-2. Superior baseball weathered the Grand Rapids storm, as a 5-0 deficit wasn’t enough to keep them out of the win column. Six unanswered runs gave Superior their first win of the season in thrilling fashion.

The first day of the transfer portal saw zero UMD Bulldogs leaving the program. Since then, it’s been an onslaught of talent leaving. The next player leaving is Anthony Menghini, a big time offensive threat for the Bulldogs. This past season he tallied 19 points, with 12 goals and 5 assists in the 35 games that he played. In his freshman season, Menghini put the puck in the back of the net eight times and two assists.

Minnesota Wilderness President of Hockey Operations steps downDavid Boitz, President of Hockey Operations for the Minnesota Wilderness, is stepping down from that position. Boitz was with the team when it entered the league in 2013 and the next year was named the club’s General Manager, and he held that position until the summer of 2024 when he transitioned to President of Hockey Operations. Boitz also served two seasons as the team’s head coach.

Duluth Marshall baseball leaning on seniors in hopes of returning to Section 7AA title gameDuluth Marshall baseball made it all the way to the section 7AA championship last year, but couldn’t get their hands on the championship trophy. Known as the young team in the Northland for the last few years, the group of seniors are ready to go. “We’ve been the youthful team of the state for many, many years,” said Nick Garramone, Duluth Marshall’s head coach.
