Up North: Bike Rodeo provides safety tips and exercise for Duluth youthDuluth has proven to be a city for bikers time and time again. Whether it’s on a trail or in a bike lane, you’re bound to see someone on two wheels. Congdon Park Elementary School in Duluth held their annual bike rodeo last week, getting all ages of riders on their bikes, and more importantly, getting out into the fresh air. “This has been a great community event,” said Katie Benziger of the Congdon Park PTA.

The Section 7A girls lacrosse tournament was not kind to Northland teams, as Grand Rapids/Greenway fell to Chisago Lakes 14-4 and the Duluth Wolfpack lost 9-8 to Centennial. GRG ran into the number one seed Chisago Lakes in the semifinal, after beating Andover 7-6 in the quarterfinals. The Wolfpack were in the same boat, beating Hermantown/Proctor 10-5, then beating Blaine 6-5. The Lightning finish their season with a 9-6 record, while the Wolfpack finish at 11-5.

Proctor baseball took down Esko 5-4 on Tuesday night, knocking Esko out of the tournament and advancing to the Section 7AA championship. The Rails survived back-to-back elimination games, thanks to Nick Terhaar’s walkoff home run against Pequot Lakes the game prior to advance to face Esko. Proctor got on the board first, as Paxton Kosloski grounded a ball into centerfield that was misplayed, scoring the Rails first run.

Former Bulldog men’s hockey captain Noah Cates is going to keep flying in Philadelphia. The Flyers announced today they’ve re-signed the 26-year-old forward to a four year deal. It’s worth an average annual value of four million dollars. This past season the two-way-centerman scored 16 goals, adding 21 assists, for 37 points in 78 games. Joining the Flyers in late March of 2022, Cates has skated in 235 career NHL games, registering 40 goals and 62 assists for 102 total points.

Duluth Marshall baseball, behind a ten strikeout game from Owen Marsolek, took down Esko 4-1 to advance to the Section 7AA championship game. The Hilltoppers trailed 1-0 in the first inning, but Oden Johnson-Brunette dropped a bunt down the third base line and an errant throw scores the game tying run. After that Duluth Marshall started clicking, plating a second run in the inning to go ahead 2-1.
