Earlier this summer, the ICTD Gender team attended the 32nd Annual Conference of the International Association of Feminist Economists (IAFFE) in Rome. We hosted three panels on gender and tax and attended many sessions with other feminist economists from around the world. In this blogpost, I reflect on the insights and lessons learned that emerged from these discussions and that we, at the ICTD, plan to take forward in our work on gender and tax.

Two of ICTD’s PhD students, Adienne Lees and Sripriya Srivatsa, recently spent three days at Gladstone’s Library in North Wales on a writing retreat. The library was built in 1902, following a bequest from William Gladstone, and has hosted a long list of distinguished writers and scholars working on their oeuvre (no pressure on our students!).

Over the last two years, I have been travelling to Ethiopia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone to collect qualitative evidence for a forthcoming paper co-authored with Dr Giulia Mascagni. This paper studies the gendered drivers of tax compliance. In this blog, I reflect on my experience and share some insights on gender and tax.
