1. Introduction Atrial septal defect (ASD), one of the most common congenital heart diseases (CHDs) in adulthood, accounts for 25%–30% of newly diagnosed CHDs, which can cause systemic circulation blood to flow into the pulmonary circulation (1). However, the majority of ASD patients remain asymptomatic through infancy and early childhood. Even those with a large left-to-right shunt might not go undiagnosed until the onset of significant symptoms in adulthood (2).
