I’m not sure I remember ever having one league dominate the top five of my power rankings like this. My top five — Dodgers, Padres, Mets, Phillies and Cubs — are all from the National League. However, every team in baseball has warts, especially given all the pitching injuries staggering the game. I’ve never said this before, but MLB should be embarrassed by product in Chicago with the White Sox and the Rockies in Denver.

Orioles fans go back a little ways with young Cade Povich. Acquired along with Yennier Cano and two long-forgotten pitchers, fans hoped GM Mike Elias’ acquisition of this lanky lefty ahead of the trade deadline in 2022 was going to be a steal. After the trade, Povich made two starts for High-A Aberdeen before being promoted to what was then called Double-A Bowie, where he made six appearances (five starts). His ERA in 23.1 innings for the Baysox was a very unsteal-looking 6.94.

Here are my latest MLB power rankings. 1. Los Angeles Dodgers (11-6, No. 1 last week): This is still strongest roster in the game, but I count at least eight significant pitchers on the injured list. It’s a warning that more injuries are possible. Amazingly, the Dodgers, Padres, Giants and Diamondbacks are collectively 44-20. 2. Philadelphia Phillies (9-6, No. 2): It’s looking like a two-team horse race in the NL East unless Braves autocorrect in a hurry. My money is on the Phils’ rotation.
