US consumers can now buy Canyon bikes via Amazon. The German direct-to-consumer bike brand has listed a selection of entry-level to mid-range urban, recreational and mountain bikes. Speaking to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, a Canyon spokesperson said: “Expanding into this space is intended to meet a new consumer on an established platform, making cycling more accessible and convenient for everyone.” Just don’t expect to find Canyon’s top-flight Aeroad or Ultimate models on Amazon.

The US bicycle industry’s trade association, PeopleForBikes, says Trump’s tariffs will have “devastating impacts” on the industry if they aren’t adjusted in the short term, in an open letter addressed to the President. PeopleForBikes represents more than 340 US manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of cycling products. Published this week, the open letter requests tariff relief or an exclusion process for bicycles and bicycle equipment.

A robotics expert has created a motorised bike that has balls instead of wheels. James Bruton, based in Hampshire, has created what he calls an ‘omni-directional’ bike, which uses the same balls used by circus acrobats. Bruton told the BBC his drive was to create videos people want to click on – and he has succeeded. The YouTube video documenting how he built the bike has received 8.5m views since it was published three months ago on Bruton’s channel, which has 1.37m subscribers.

EU regulations around ebikes could be set to change, potentially altering their classification as bicycles. Several EU ministries announced before the 2024 European Parliament elections that vehicle regulations would be revised, leading to changes in ebike regulations. But the success of electric bikes could be seen as depending on their equal legal status to bicycles. This is the view, at least, of ZIV (Zweirad Industrie Verband), the German cycling industry association.
