I don’t get the fuss about the movie Civil War. Finally saw it on Prime when the price came down to a reasonable level. Is the shock about this film that a civil war could happen in the modern US, the “exceptional” USA? Time to wake up, America. The film is not about a civil war, per se, as much as it is about war photographers. What the film shows about them is pretty stereotyped when it doesn’t show them as callous.

On April 1, a World Central Kitchen convoy of three cars drove on a route pre-approved and coordinated with the Israeli military in central Gaza. One car after another was targeted with missiles from a and all seven WCK workers and volunteers were killed. The Hermes drone is produced by the Israeli company Elbit. Connecticut has as part of its $95 million invested in Israeli companies. This isn’t the first time that an Elbit drone was connected to a human rights abuse.

What’s happening to Palestinians in Gaza staggers the mind. CNN reported on January 7 that on average ten Palestinian children a day have had a limb or limbs amputated, ten a day since October 7. Most Gaza hospitals have been forced to close and patients wander in hopes of reaching another hospital even though these facilities are immensely crowded with few supplies.

Dar Al Shifa Hospital – CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=68136302On October 19, Ehud Barak, former Israeli Prime Minister, gave an interview to the BBC on its “Newsnight” program in which he said that it was well known that Hamas has its “central command post” under Al Shifa hospital in Gaza and implied Israel would attack it after seeing that all the patients were evacuated to another facility. There’s a recording of the interview at the site Archive.org.

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation was formed in 1982 and says it is made up of 50,000 individuals and groups worldwide. It works to build a world “free of nuclear weapons.” This is indeed a worthy goal.

Henry Kissinger turned 100 years old on May 27. Kissinger, a former secretary of state and national security advisor, has been involved in decisions such as the expansion of the Vietnam War into Cambodia that killed an estimated 150,000 civilians. Another policy involving his direction occurred 50 years ago on Sept. 11: the United States’ backing for the coup in Chile, which instituted a brutal military dictatorship that eventually murdered and tortured thousands of people.

The Israeli paper “Haaretz” is reporting that the Biden Administration is organizing a grand deal to get Saudi Arabia to formally recognize Israel in return for permission to gather enriched uranium in the kingdom. There’s little doubt that the Saudi kingdom under control of Mohammed Bin Salman will use it to create nuclear bombs. The Haaretz article says there’s a group in the Senate that might stand in the way of this deal, a group of Democrats led by Connecticut’s Chris Murphy.
