    Pune: It was supposed to be a delicious wedding feast. But a 70-year-old man found himself in the ICU after swallowing a mutton bone, which then got stuck, horizontally, inside the oesophagus. The sharp bone, some 5cm long, caused a tear in the food pipe and lodged itself just above the heart, with potential risk to major blood vessels and other vital organs. The horizontal position the bone was in made it impossible for the man to drink water. The incident happened on Feb 24 in Indapur.

    Pune: Over two months after the first Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) cases were reported in the city, the civic body has declared that the outbreak is over and will soon stop door-to-door investigations in severely affected areas. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the state health department had started door-to-door surveillance and screenings in the second week of Jan to detect suspected GBS patients.
