1 INTRODUCTION Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a neurovascular disease of the preterm infants and is considered a major cause of preventable childhood blindness worldwide (Blencowe et al., 2013; Zhang et al., 2022). Currently established screening criteria in most countries rely on characteristics such as gestational age (GA) and birth weight (BW) to identify infants at risk for developing sight-threatening disease (Kościółek et al., 2022).
