Atlas Air, an American 747 operator carrying goods from the US to China, began regular flights into East Midlands Airport yesterday (May 13) and will operate five flights a week throughout the summer.

Air guitars and air travel don’t always mix when Download Festival sets up next to East Midlands Airport. But with careful planning it’s hoped passengers and festivalgoers can enjoy themselves without any headaches next month. The UK’s largest rock festival takes place at Donington Park next to the airport from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June, with campsites opening on Wednesday 11 June.

Until now, people using the airport’s Rapid Drop Off area pulled up at an exit barrier and paid the fee by card or cash.
