A new "crypto" law in California comes into effect on July 1, 2025 that will impose licensing requirements on broad categories of digital financial asset business activity. The law provides for significant per-day penalties that may be assessed for unlicensed activities and other noncompliance. Important exemptions under the law exist for banks, broker-dealers, network/technology providers and other types of entities.
