Naming restaurants is a tough game. Beyond the fact that you usually need some foundational inspiration, you then have to make sure people can spell it correctly when searching for it and say it correctly when talking about it to their friends. Plus, you have to make sure no one else has thought of it first. Bar Siena, which opened in January in Hopkins, didn’t think there was any competitive issue with the Bar Siena in Chicago, until there was.

I love this picture of David Burley and Stephanie Shimp from the State Fair last year. It says so much in one captured slice of a full day tagging along with the Blue Plate founders on an August day of Blue Barn magic. It seems like a quiet moment. Maybe Burley's one-armed lean gives the impression of ease but, as always, in restaurants, it's what you don't see that matters most. Burley's leg was in a boot, having broken his foot right before the Fair.
