One year ago, the 1883 Tarrytown Lighthouse had just completed a $3 million renovation as the beloved landmark got extensive repairs, but now the boarded-up windows outside hint at the extensive damage inside. The Canandaigua Fire Department released its 2024 year-end report, revealing a total of 2,460 calls for service—underscoring the department’s essential role in emergency response across the city and surrounding areas. Of those calls, 1,153 were for EMS-only incidents, 69 involved fires, and 117 were related to motor vehicle accidents. The department also responded to 531 calls within the Town of Canandaigua Fire District and provided mutual aid to neighboring agencies 58 times.

A sailboat caught fire in Middlefield on Monday night. The Middlefield and Durham volunteer fire companies responded to an area on the town line for the reported boat fire. They said the vessel was on fire on dry land. One person is injured following a multi-vehicle crash that caused one vehicle to rollover and catch on fire on Route 5 in South Windsor on Sunday evening. Emergency crews were called to a multi-vehicle accident on Route 5 near Governors Highway around 9:45 p.m. The first police officers at the scene reported one vehicle rolled over and was on fire, while the first firefighter there determined the driver had already gotten out of the vehicle.
