    TICONDEROGA — On May 10, 1775, Benedict Arnold, Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys rowed across Lake Champlain and seized the British garrison at Fort Ticonderoga — delivering the colonists the fort, its cannon and their first victory of the American Revolution. On Saturday, 250-years-to-the-day later, re-enactors are marching across Vermont en route to Lake Champlain, where they will board boats, row across the lake and storm the fort Saturday night.

    CHEYENNE – A federal judge heard arguments Wednesday regarding two competing First Amendment rights: the right to vote free of undue influence and the right to free speech. A lawsuit, filed five years ago by Cheyenne resident John C. Frank in United States District Court for the District of Wyoming, brings into question the constitutionality of Wyoming’s no-electioneering buffer zones around polling places, with emphasis on the 100-foot boundaries around the Laramie County Governmental Complex.

    GROS VENTRE — As the Pack Trail Fire moved down Burnt Ridge, torching pine trees in its path, Chris Fizer pointed to 10 feet of bare ground firefighters had cleared between a fence and the sagebrush hillside north of the Elk Track Ranch. If the fire got close enough, firefighters planned to climb the hill and set the sagebrush and grasses ablaze with drip torches to rob the fire of fuel, creating a buffer between the blaze, the fence and the rest of the ranch.
