Popular cabaret singer Diane D'Angelo brought her show CLOSING CREDITS to the newly buffed-up Laure Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Cafe on 42nd Street. Elegantly freshened-up with new decor, different seating options, and a sparkling new light grid, the setting was ripe for the equally elegant D'Angelo and her sulty band of swinging musicians, David Silliman on Drums, Tom Hubbard on Bass, and Gregory Toroian Musical Directing from the Piano.

That indefatigable teller of tales and jaunty jokes, Robbie Rozelle, is about to make his yearly sprint up onto and off of the cabaret stage. Bombarded with projects for the Center Stage label, producing CDS for artists like Colin Donnell and Patti Murin, and his own work as a web designer, the popular raconteur and troubadour has had to limit his own performing to one show a year.

Liz Callaway is back at 54 Below this week with a brand new show centered around her long friendship with Stephen Schwartz. The musical cabaret THE WIZARD AND I has a subtitle to inform those not in the know - LIZ CALLAWAY SINGS STEPHEN SCHWARTZ - and although there may be those who attend the offering without knowing the play Wicked or that the song The Wizard And I is from Wicked, even without that information, The Wizard and I could simply refer to Schwartz and Callaway, themselves.

Tom Kitt, the award-winning creator of many musical theater scores, spent the last week at 54 Below presenting a series of four concerts tracing his career in (mostly) chronological order, from humble beginnings on the first night right up to an eye on the future on night four. The gentleman regularly sells out his concerts at the Tony Award-bestowed venue, and this residency, Tom Kitt & FRIENDS, was no exception.
