    It’s true that college isn’t for everyone. It’s as true now as it was in 1967 when I graduated from high school and began my freshman year in college. In 1967, like today, there were good jobs and careers available for high school graduates who joined the workforce instead of pursuing a college degree. Many of my fellow graduates did exactly that and have led productive and comfortable lives. However, there are some important differences between the 1967 and 2025 job markets.

Even so, it is a concept that bears repeating – even to those who have been well versed in history. It is especially important to help our school children grasp the gravity of Santayana’s message.
