TOMS RIVER – When Mia Martinez stepped to the first tee at Bey Lea Golf Course Thursday morning, she was laser focused on taming the elements and winning a second straight Ocean County Girls Golf Tournament. A little over four hours later, the Pinelands sophomore had not only made it two wins in as many tries, she accomplished the feat in dominating fashion. A year after a two-shot win, Martinez rolled to a five-shot victory, posted an 81 in cool, windy conditions.

MILLSTONE – It looked like the Monmouth County Boys Golf Tournament was as wide open as it's been in a long time, and that’s exactly how it played out at Charleston Springs Wednesday. Deep into the back nine there were five teams were within five shots of each vying for the title. And it was much the same in the battle for individual honors, with a three-way tie at the top of a tightly-packed leaderboard late in the round.

MILLSTONE – Mother Nature looked like she'd be the winner at Tuesday’s Monmouth County Girls Golf Tournament, as a cold wind, with gusts up to 35 mph, whipped across the North Course at Charleston Springs, resulting in the event being shortened to nine holes. But from those brutal conditions emerged championship performances from a player and her team, overcoming the elements to build some big-time early season momentum.

Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir Jr., coming off one of the best seasons in program history, announced on social media Monday that he will transfer to Kansas State next season. Bashir, the 6-7 guard who led the nation with 127 three-pointers last season, entered the transfer portal last week, after finishing as the CAA’s top scorer at 20.1 points-per-game as a sophomore.
