February 2, in the liturgical calendar, is the day that Catholics celebrate Candlemas, which is also known as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple. It is based on the account of the presentation of Jesus in Luke 2:22-40. Nomenclature aside, the feast day celebrates Mary and Joseph’s presentation of Jesus in the Temple, 40 days after his birth and the response from Anna, the prophetess, who was “of great age,” and Simeon of Jerusalem.

One of the oddities of the political world in which we live is that things that are vaguely similar are commonly treated as if they were solidly identical. Now that same-sex “marriage” is in vogue, the polarity of the sexes is dissolved into a unicity. The same can be said of male and female, mother and father, husband and wife, which are currently regarded as equal and identical with each other. Identity reigns, distinctiveness disappears.

I wish to be extremely careful in this portion of our series. There is no one-size-fit-all approach to incorporating the liturgy into our daily lives.
