Three people were handcuffed and taken into custody by federal authorities Tuesday at Sacramento Immigration Court downtown, according to a volunteer attorney who witnessed the arrests. Jessie De Haven, who regularly provides free legal advice to immigrants at the court, said the arrests happened after the men appeared before Immigration Judge Vikram Badrinath. Shafer plotted for weeks. “You first eat with your eyes,” the chef said Saturday afternoon in Sacramento’s Discovery Park. So, Shafer asked a local bakery to make charcoal black brioche buns. The chef also tasted different ground meats and worked on the condiments, eventually deciding on a jam of candied bacon, onions and tomatoes.

A man was arrested late Friday afternoon after a roughly five-hour standoff with law enforcement at a home in Lincoln, police said. Lincoln police officers and firefighters around noon were called out to a home on the 1300 block of La Guardia Circle for a house fire, the Lincoln Police Department and city of Lincoln said in a joint news release. A blaze in the driveway was put out shortly after.
