The Pirates have picked up a veteran DB from the transfer portal. East Carolina has bolstered its defensive backfield depth, adding a commitment from graduate transfer Rice defensive back Jonathan Jean. The 5-foot-10, 191-pounder will come to ECU with one year of eligibility remaining, having spent the last four seasons at Rice. Jean has seen action in 27 games, making 56 total tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss, with five pass breakups, and one forced fumble.

These top class of 2026 recruits are scheduled to officially visit in the summer. VIPEast Carolina coaches will spend much of May on the road before returning home for camps and official visit season in June. Typically, pledges come in waves during the summer months when prospects take visits and spots begin to fill up. East Carolina is hoping to build momentum with its 2026 class during this time, and has already scheduled quite a number of prospects to official visits for the month of June.

East Carolina hosts first-place UTSA on Friday, welcoming in the Roadrunners for a three-game set in the final home weekend series of the season. The Pirates have eight players on active CFL rosters this preseason. All eyes were recently on the NFL Draft, and rightfully so, given the year-round machine that is the sport. But not to be forgotten, and to be played first, is the 2025 Canadian Football League, which is set to kickoff officially in early June. Training camps in the CFL, meanwhile, are underway already, and the Pirates are well-represented.

We're finally into May, and spring practice is formally over for East Carolina's football team. In addition, the Pirates' coaches can now rest a bit better with the transfer portal window closed. Yes, ECU is looking into bulking up its roster with some key additions, but otherwise, the focus is on recruiting the 2026 class, and continuing to develop the 2025 roster with the spring semester coming to an end.
