There is a fascinating mix of drivers on GB4’s record-breaking grid this year. The introduction of a new car (a modified version of the old GB3 machine) has helped generate a buzz about MotorSport Vision’s second-tier junior single-seater championship and an impressive line-up of 24 drivers is due to assemble at Donington Park for this weekend’s opener.

Three-time Mini Challenge champion Dan Zelos will move into the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB this year after being unable to secure a drive in the British Touring Car Championship. The 26-year-old finally made his BTCC debut last year when he contested the last three events in an Excelr8 Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N in place of Ronan Pearson. He instantly looked at home in the series, scoring points on his debut and achieving a best result of eighth across the nine races.

The FIA has revealed new guidelines for grassroots touring car categories that governing bodies and organisers around the world can adopt to ensure safety standards are met when launching championships. The regulations are not compulsory for new tin-top series to use but they cover areas such as the safety cage, fuel systems, cockpit access, brakes, tyres, suspension and towing.

The Historic Racing Drivers Club is the latest historic racing organiser to have changed hands in the past 18 months after it was acquired by Motor Racing Legends chairman Shaun Lynn. Prolific historics racer Lynn - father of Cadillac World Endurance Championship ace Alex - took over at MRL just under a year ago and his Aythorpe Promotions concern has now also added the HRDC to its portfolio.
