I disagree with people who say the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge shouldn’t exist or that no one asked for it. Innovation isn’t always a show of hands, and I can recognize that two things can be true at once. The Galaxy S25 Edge is an impressive piece of technology, fitting a powerful flagship chipset and a 6.7-inch display into a smartphone only 5.8mm thick. However, it’s also not a phone you should run out and buy.

Google Glass debuted in 2013. If you asked me over a decade ago, I would’ve sworn that glasses would be the predominant wearable technology. However, like many projects before and since, the company abandoned Google Glass, and I’ve been waiting for a suitable replacement ever since. The Apple Vision Pro and other AR wearables are impractical, and if Android XR is going to catch on, it won’t be with goggle-style products like Samsung’s upcoming Project Moohan.

The Google Pixel 9a is one of the best smartphones you can buy for $500. Google did a fantastic job producing a well-rounded device, and it’s in the early running for my midrange phone of the year. Thankfully, carrier deals and discounts mean you don’t have to pay the full $500 to get Google’s best A-series phone. There are a few conditions, but if you’re in the market to switch carriers, Mint Mobile can get you a Pixel 9a for less.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is an impressive piece of technology. It packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite and a 6.7-inch display into a device that is only 5.8mm thick. I understand why Samsung built it, but it’s not a phone that should wind up in your pocket. It has too many compromises for its $1,100 price tag, and Samsung didn’t fit the device with a silicon-carbon battery, which would’ve made it more viable as a daily driver.

Technology moves quickly, and as a tech reviewer, I’m forced to move on from devices within a few weeks of their release. It means I don’t get to live with any one phone long-term, making it harder to find perspective. The Google Pixel 8a is only a year old, but it’s already had a successor and several other Pixels released, serving as competition. If you own a Pixel 8a, you’re most likely pleased with your experience, and there will be no reason to part with it for years.
