Government leader Penny Wong said the senator’s outburst sought to “incite outrage and grievance”. “This is part of a trend that we do see internationally which, quite frankly, we do not need here in Australia,” Senator Wong told parliament on Monday.

    Utilities relocation works to raise London Circuit will close Commonwealth Avenue to traffic in the northbound direction next weekend. London Circuit is being raised in a $100 million project to accommodate Stage 2A of the tram route from Civic to Commonwealth Park.

    Traffic heading south on Northbourne Avenue through the intersection of Bunda Street will be monitored for speed and red light offences from the end of this month. The ACT government says this is not an additional camera in its fixed-camera network. It is a relocation of an existing fixed camera. The location has been chosen for its proximity to the bus interchange and light rail stop with increased vehicle and pedestrian movement.

    Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, won February’s presidential election in a landslide victory of nearly 59% of the nationwide vote, more than double his nearest challenger. But his party, Gerindra, fell far short of a majority in the parliamentary elections that took place at the same time. Gerindra was founded by Prabowo and its political fortunes are inseparable from his personal popularity. Yet, the party won just 14.8% of the seats in Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR).
