SUZUKA, Japan (AP) - Max Verstappen won Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix for his first victory of the young season and just the third in 17 races but needed a drive that his Red Bull team engineer called "perfection" to get it done. It was Verstappen's fourth straight victory on the Suzuka circuit in central Japan and breaks the momentum of the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who won the season's first two races in Australia and China. SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — Max Verstappen of Red Bull will start from pole position in the Japanese Grand Prix after turning in the top time in qualifying on Saturday in his final attempt. Lando Norris of McLaren will start alongside on Sunday with teammate Oscar Piastri on the second row with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. Verstappen claimed the pole on his final lap, setting a lap-record for the Japanese circuit of 1 minute 26.983 seconds. It was his 41st pole.

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton is not used to aiming lower. But he may need to as he adjusts to his first season with Ferrari. He's won a record of 105 F1 races, but it's anyone's guess when he'll make it 106. He's won only twice in the last three seasons and is winless in the first two races in the main event in 2025 going into Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix. “There was obviously a huge amount of hype at the beginning of the year," he said ahead of Sunday's race.

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — The Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday is only the third Formula 1 race of the season, and several plots are developing that promise a few twists. But the fresh storylines could be as fleeting as the cherry blossoms seen all over Japan at this time of the year. There's McLaren, which has been the early force after winning the first two races.
