    The Tigers were expecting a tough fight out of the Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial girls basketball Thursday during their home opener in Hutchinson. The Knights were ranked No. 7 in Class 2A in the first rankings of the year, but the Tigers (2-0) were on fire from the start as they took a 36-14 lead in the first half and went on to win 61-37. Five minutes went by before Lake Crystal scored its first points of the game, and Hutchinson had already built a 15-point lead.

    Hutchinson volleyball cleaned up its hitting Tuesday and swept Mound-Westonka 3-0 in a Wright County Conference home match. The Tigers (7-11, 4-4 WCC) only had 10 hitting errors and kept it down to 38 errors total in the match. Hutch also blew the lowly White Hawks out of the water. Mound-Westonka has yet to win a conference match, and the Tigers jumped out to an early lead after winning the first two sets 25-10 and 25-19.
