This was taken the morning after my Dad's 80th birthday party. I've photographed this tree a few times, but he died a few weeks later, so it's become kind of symbolic. The morning was very misty, but the sunrise broke behind the tree at just the right time.

The optics and timing are bad. Amid a national housing crisis, news broke this week that federal officials are considering a new residence for Canada's prime minister. The official residence of the PM, 24 Sussex Drive, is in a state of disrepair and falls short of modern security standards. The deteriorating condition of the Ottawa mansion is not a new issue, with the property now plagued by rodent infestations, among other problems.
