Thomas Aquinas entered a monastery in 1273 and died there months later. In his last public statement, Aquinas referred to his work and said, “It’s all straw.” Given that Aquinas shaped medieval philosophy and the theology of the church (R.C. Sproul often said that Aquinas was his favorite theologian), Aquinas’ statement was surprising at minimum. Paul said something like that but was more specific.

If you are a skeptic or have ever been one, then, chances are, you have had the experience of going to a Christian, asking about his or her faith, only to receive a “You just believe, that’s all” in response. If God is in charge of the future (and he is)…then we can dream. After all, God has built the very foundations upon which the future sits. God controls the future (Revelation 1:8, Psalm 135:13, Psalm 145:13). God didn’t ask permission from me, of course, but I’m glad he is in charge. It isn’t a job for boys. God controls your future. Not only does God control the future in general, but he controls your future in particular (Psalm 91:1-4, Mathew 6:25-26).
