    Matt Maus-Gillespie opened The Parlour Barber on April 1 in its new location at 113 Fifth Ave. S., across from Anytime Fitness in downtown La Crosse. It’s in the former location of The Cut Barbershop and Salon, which owner Laura Markham moved recently to 2316 State Road. Maus-Gillespie previously rented a space at a hair salon on Main Street. This is the first time he’s had his own location. “It’s a small hair community,” he said.

    I’ve got news this week about a new owner for the Walsh Golf Center, a new cafe coming to the City Square building in downtown La Crosse, Cordell’s Automotive Service & Tire adding a seventh location, and a local food truck shutting down. Nearly 80 years after the business began, Tristan Fink purchased Walsh Golf Center at 4203 County Hwy. B in La Crosse from David Swift on March 26.

    Remodeling is under way for the new Banh Mi Cafe, which Keng Lor expects to open in late May on the first floor of the City Square building at 444 Main St. in downtown La Crosse. “It will be mostly Vietnamese” cuisine, Lor told me this week. The menu will include such things as sandwiches (most will be served hot), bowls, barbecue ribs, salads and spring rolls. The cafe will have a variety of banh mi sandwiches, Thai coffee, boba tea and smoothies.

    The Batter & Brew food truck in La Crosse has shut down. I featured the food truck’s debut in a column last July, when it began serving up crepes, mini pancakes and a variety of beverages. Earlier this week, I noticed a March 31 post on its Facebook page that says “It’s bittersweet to share that we’re closing the doors (or rather, the window) of Batter & Brew.

    There’s news this week about a new pizza business in Viroqua, the relocation of a barbershop/hair salon in La Crosse and the closing of a coffee drive-thru in Onalaska. Owner Ben Dollhausen and his son, operations manager Scout Dollhausen, will open their new Mia Sophia Pizza trailer business with a grand opening celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at its primary location at 741 S. Main St. on the south side of Viroqua.
