Last week, after sustained pressure, we finally saw the government perform a long-overdue U-turn on the Winter Fuel Allowance cuts. This announcement should have come months ago, and the delay has caused unnecessary distress for pensioners across the country—especially here in Torbay, where up to 21,000 residents have likely felt the impact.

Last week marked Victory in Europe Day, a time to remember the sacrifices made for our freedom. It’s an occasion to reflect on the courage, resilience, and unity that have shaped the nation and secured the liberties we enjoy today. While my parliamentary duties kept me in Westminster, I was committed to paying tribute to our heroes. In the evening, I attended a special concert at Horse Guards Parade commemorating VE Day.

With Parliament in recess for Easter, I’ve had the pleasure of spending last week enjoying the spring sunshine right here in Torbay. This break has been a wonderful opportunity to catch-up in person with my constituency staff team, hold important meetings with organisations like South West Water, and visit some of the fantastic community events happening across our beautiful bay.
