Scenes of joy poured from Toyota Stadium late Saturday evening as North Texas SC finished an outstanding season with a stirring, dramatic comeback victory in the MLS Next Pro Cup Final. (Highlights of the 3-2 win here.)NTSC manager Michel and his young club, the developmental arm of FC Dallas, deserved that moment for finishing atop the 29-team feeder league not just in the regular season, but winning the four elimination matches in the playoffs necessary to be crowned MLS Next Pro champs.

I write regularly for Soccer America and last week I wrote about the possibility of flipping the MLS calendar; rather than playing a spring-summer-fall cadence, the league would adopt the more standard FIFA calendar and observe a fall-winter-spring cadence. All this — it’s an OLD discussion point, but now sprouting new branches — sprang from Paul Tenorio’s reporting (paywalled) in the New York Times / Athletic.

The headline says “critical questions” that FC Dallas must answer. But perhaps we should sledge hammer this point home with a little more clarity and precision: it should probably say “critical-huge-giant-super important” questions that FC Dallas must answer going forward, at a very high level. Like most of the members, I take the responsibility seriously, so the call serves a real purpose.

What an atmosphere in Miami, where the Brazilian / Palmeiras supporters are in amazing voice. The FIFA Club World Cup hasn't been perfect. But matches like this one (v @InterMiamiCF) should be convincing everyone there IS a place for this competition #FIFACWC #FIFAClubWorldCup

A meek @InterMiamiCF 1st half; felt like we were watching the slow death of Miami/Messi project. Halfway through group stage w/ ZERO goals. But a spirited 2nd half and a (what else!?) stunning free kick Messi goal and ...well, this thing might have life MIA 2, Porto 1 #FIFACWC

Y'all don't bother me after lunch. I'm busy. VERY busy. https://t.co/whb8Anqj5g
