    The 91st Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl will feature the ACC’s Louisville Cardinals (8-4) and the Washington Huskies (6-6), representing the Pac-12. The Cardinals and the Huskies will kick it off at the Sun Bowl at noon on Dec. 31. The game will be televised live on CBS for the 56th consecutive year. This will be the first meeting ever on the football field for Washington and Louisville. “We are very fortunate to have the matchup that we have,” said Bernie Olivas, Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl executive director.

    Former UTEP football coach Dana Dimel passed away in his sleep Tuesday morning sending shockwaves through the football community. His family and agent made the announcement on social media Tuesday morning. He was 62. “Dane Dimel passed in his sleep this morning,” his agent, Pete Roussel, shared on X. “His passing is gut-wrenching.     The tears steadily flowed down El Paso’s Kayla Thornton’s cheeks as she looked up to the rafters at the Don Haskins Center last Sunday. Her ever-present smile quickly emerged from those tears of joy as four spotlights shined over her No. 5. UTEP jersey with her name prominently displayed. Thornton, El Paso’s hometown champion, had her jersey retired and the city proclaimed Nov. 10 as Kayla Thornton Day. “It was an emotional day for me,” said Thornton, an Irvin High School graduate.
