New York, NY (April 11, 2025)—Continuing its collaboration with Yamaha, Waves has released the WSG-PY64 I/O card for the DM7 Series of digital mixing consoles. The WSG-PY64 enables Waves plug-ins to be integrated with Yamaha DM7 mixers, supporting 64 channels at sample rates from 44.1 to 96 kHz with ultra-low latency (0.8 mS), while allowing parallel recording, or playback and processing.

File this one under “we almost didn’t make the gig.” Here’s the setup…On Thursday, March 27, we had a show at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. The following day we’d be at the Robins Theatre in Warren, Ohio, which is about an hour from Cleveland. Flying from Milwaukee to Cleveland sounds simple, but the reality is that you can’t fly nonstop, and even with a connection, we’d arrive in Cleveland way too late for a show day.

Don’t pass up Part 1!After a few tweaks to bring the power connection in the Ampex 351 up to modern AC standards, my refurb of a second Ampex 351 electronics module continues…An issue that plagues these aged beasties is that the power supply includes a selenium rectifier. As documented in Resurrecting an Audio Dinosaur, Part 2, selenium rectifiers—which were fairly common in electronics at that time—don’t age well.

A few years ago here, I chronicled my restoration of an Ampex 351 electronics module that was originally part of a tape machine, but with a bit of modification could be used as a microphone preamp. The donor of that unit—my friend and audio mentor Tony Ungaro—was kind enough to give me a second Ampex 351, which had been sitting idle for a few years.
