It came in the form of a chance encounter with Olympian Gavin Smellie. The quick but meaningful exchange revealed how the Elsie MacGill Secondary School sprinter – who’d just hung with the best junior girls in the province – had no club training. Needless to say, this came as quite the surprise. “He was shocked,” said the 16-year-old Miltonian.
