“To find a man’s true character, play golf with him.” – P.G. WodehouseOn Sunday afternoon, an afternoon as unpredictable as the weather in Arizona. Rory McIlroy broke through and tamed the demons. A losing streak in the Majors going back 11-years, as well as finally winning the Major that had become so elusive: The Masters. McIlroy’s best finish was in 2022, where he placed second. A tie for 15th in 2011 where he lost a four-stroke lead, via an 8-over par 80.

The commentary was head shaking, as it looked as if another opportunity to win the green jacket had gone south for the season.

Justin Rose found a little bit of magic on Thursday as he fired a blazing seven-under par 65 to set the pace at Augusta National. Masters favorite Scottie Scheffler finished 4-under, three off the lead. Other notable names include Bryson DeChambeau at -3, Jason Day -2, Bubba Watson -1, and Rory McIlroy even. McIlroy found a way to implode in his opening round. What seemed promising early, dissolved into a nightmare on the 15th hole as the Northern Irishman would double bogey the par-5.
