Every club in the National League has joined a campaign to introduce an extra promotion place into the English Football League (EFL). They are calling for the change to be adopted in time for next season. Currently, two places are available for promotion into League 2. The 72 National League clubs want to increase that number by bringing one of them into line with the three-up, three-down policy elsewhere at the top of the football pyramid.

The sacked Premier League referee David Coote says he turned to cocaine because being involved in the "macho world” of football forced him to hide his sexuality. Coote was suspended last year after footage of him emerged using foul language to describe the former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Then a video was made public of him snorting what appeared to be white powder. These incidents he’s described as “private moments taken during very low times in my life”.
