Four agenda items, including the city's proposed 2025-26 fiscal year budget, went down to defeat Monday at a Pekin City Council meeting. The vote on each rejected item was 3-3, with Mayor Mary Burress and council members John Abel and Karen Hohimer voting yes. Council members Rick Hilst, Dave Nutter and Lloyd Orrick cast the no votes. Council member Chris Onken was absent. He's a teacher at Pekin Community High School, which is on spring break.

Plans to build a $44 million, three-story Tazewell County Justice Center Annex are moving full speed ahead. An opportunity for the county board to take a step back and consider a $41 million, two-story option for the annex went by the wayside Thursday at a committee of the whole meeting called by new Board Chairman Brett Grimm.

Farber boys basketball team finishes its best season ever with a win on the Yeshiva University court in New York City. A historic season for the Farber Hebrew Day School boys basketball team ended at a historic tournament in New York City. Farber lost two of the three games it played at the 32nd annual Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament at Yeshiva University, but the Flames’ final 15-4 season record was the best in program history.

Two Washington businesses were given the go-ahead Monday to have video gaming terminals in their establishments. The Peak on Summit, 201 S. Summit Drive, and Blue Ox, 120 N. Wilmor Road, were unanimously approved for licenses by the City Council. The businesses can turn on their gaming terminals May 1.

Bullying, and the Morton School District's response or lack of an appropriate response to it, was a major issue in the race for four open seats on the School Board. Superintendent Craig Smock pushed back Tuesday against the criticism about bullying response brought to the district by board candidate Ashley Fischer, who was defeated by a slate of four candidates, and her supporters.
