RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -An inmate was found dead Friday morning at the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said. The inmate, who the sheriff’s office is not identifying until next of kin have been notified, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 5:30 a.m.Life-saving measures were not effective and he was pronounced dead a short time later, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office initiated a critical incident protocol.

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -9:20 P.M. UPDATE: Regional Transportation Commission public information officer Josh MacEachern said the car ran a red light and the car crashed into the bus, not the bus hitting the car. A bus passenger was taken to the hospital but that passenger’s condition was not immediately available. 8:40 P.M. UPDATE: The Reno Police Department said the driver of a car injured in a crash with a Regional Transportation bus Wednesday night has life-threatening injuries.

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -A man who had sex with a Reno teenagerwas sentenced to 10 years in federal prison plus 20 years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Friday. Gregory Weeks, 37, pleaded guilty ti one count of coercion and enticement and will have to register as a sex offender once released from prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Weeks made contact with the 15-year-old boy in March 2023 and sent pictures of himself masturbating, prosecutors said.

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (KOLO) -Three people arrested after an incident in Virginia City during Hot August Nights have trial dates set for next year in Virginia City Justice Court. Ricky Johnson, a black man, was collecting signatures for a petition in Virginia City when he was allegedly confronted by Gary Miller, 74. During the incident Miller allegedly made reference to a “hanging tree.”Johnson made a video of the confrontation and demanded Miller repeat the hanging tree comment.
