Sand Devil wrestlers find success at state

Five Page wrestlers returned from the state tournament with some impressive hardware around their necks: Connor Peterson, Ian Yellowhair, Trina Bennett, Ilina Robbins, and Mya Tsinniginnie all wrestled in the state championship medal rounds. Nine Sand Devils qualified for state, but only Peterson and Yellowhair advanced into the medal rounds. Head wrestling coach Kyran Keisling chalked it up to injuries, some poor performances and nerves.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Celeste Claw walked into Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum Saturday night wearing a red suit and her game face. She walked out wearing a smile and Victory Lace. The Lady Sand Devils were crowned 3A champions after defeating the Window Rock Fighting Scouts 35-29 Saturday night, after which they kissed the golden trophy, took the Champion Selfies and cut down the nets.
Page High School student named 3A North Player of the Year

Tyree Stingley, a junior at Page High School, was named the 3A North Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. The 3A North Player of the Year is voted on by all the boys basketball coaches in 3A North. Stingley, who plays guard post for the Sand Devils, had a standout season. He was the team’s leading scorer and in January he scored his 1,000th career point, a feat very few basketball players achieve. It was made all the more remarkable that he reached that milestone halfway through his junior year.
Lady Sand Devils advance to state quarterfinals

The Lady Sand Devils advanced to the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship tournament after defeating Ganado 60-38 in the tournament’s second round Friday. It was the third time the Lady Sand Devils and the Lady Hornets have met this season. Page beat them 40- 21 in their first meeting, and 63-42 in their second meeting. The Lady Sand Devils played a fast-paced slashing and passing offense the first two quarters, led by their intense, driving point guard Alyssa Harris.
Mustangs knock Sand Devils out of playoffs

The Sand Devils’ amazing season came to a disappointing end Wednesday night in the first round of the state championship tournament when they lost to Monument Valley 58-61. It was the second time in a week Page lost to the Mustangs. Monument Valley beat Page 44-36 a week earlier in the 3A North Tournament. Wednesday’s game was the fourth time the two teams have met this year, with Page defeating Monument Valley the first two times the teams met.
Page Cheerleaders rock regionals

FT. DEFIANCE, Ariz. – The Sand Devils cheerleaders had a very successful regional Spirit Line Showcase last weekend, bringing home first place trophies for three out of the four categories. They were the champion of the Performance Halftime Routine, champion of School Spirit Chant, and they won for Overall Best Performance in the 3A North Region. The only category they didn’t win was Situational Chant.
Lady Sand Devils edged out in regional championship

FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz. – The Window Rock Lady Scouts narrowly beat out the Lady Sand Devils in the regional championship game Saturday by a score of 57 to 51. No. 1 seeded Page, who entered the tournament riding an 11-game win streak, had a first-round bye. They defeated the Chinle Wildcats in the second round to advance to the championship game. On paper, the Lady Sand Devils and the Lady Fighting Scouts are evenly matched.
Lake View Science and Inventors Fair ignites imaginations

Lake View Primary held its 5th Annual Science and Inventors Fair last week, and many of the students showed a great deal of creativity and inventiveness with the items they submitted. The inventions and science displays were created by Lake View’s 2nd graders, some of whom spent weeks developing their projects. On the day of the fair, the 2nd graders set up their inventions on tables in Lake View’s gym. The students’ parents and grandparents were allowed to visit and peruse the displays.
Page Middle School’s ECAP incentive trips a big hit

Page Middle School’s Education Career Action Plan incentive trips are very popular with students and teachers alike. The Education Career Action Plan (ECAP) is a statewide program designed to help students create a plan of coursework, explore career aspirations, and extend learning opportunities that will help them expand their individual academic goals, career goals and postsecondary plans. Page Middle School’s ECAP program is headed by Jeremiah Stewart, the school’s counselor.
5 PHS students qualify for All-Region Choir

Five students from Page High School have qualified for this year's All-State Choir. Reed Nolan earned 8th Chair Tenor, Samuel Robertson earned 4th Chair Tenor, James Nolan earned the highest score in the tenor section and received 1st Chair Tenor, Timothy Kidman earned 10th Chair Tenor and Sara Kidman earned 5th Chair Soprano.
