    Five Page wrestlers returned from the state tournament with some impressive hardware around their necks: Connor Peterson, Ian Yellowhair, Trina Bennett, Ilina Robbins, and Mya Tsinniginnie all wrestled in the state championship medal rounds.     Nine Sand Devils qualified for state, but only Peterson and Yellowhair advanced into the medal rounds.     Head wrestling coach Kyran Keisling chalked it up to injuries, some poor performances and nerves.

    PHOENIX, Ariz. – Celeste Claw walked into Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum Saturday night wearing a red suit and her game face. She walked out wearing a smile and Victory Lace.     The Lady Sand Devils were crowned 3A champions after defeating the Window Rock Fighting Scouts 35-29 Saturday night, after which they kissed the golden trophy, took the Champion Selfies and cut down the nets.

    Tyree Stingley, a junior at Page High School, was named the 3A North Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. The 3A North Player of the Year is voted on by all the boys basketball coaches in 3A North.     Stingley, who plays guard post for the Sand Devils, had a standout season. He was the team’s leading scorer and in January he scored his 1,000th career point, a feat very few basketball players achieve. It was made all the more remarkable that he reached that milestone halfway through his junior year.

    The Lady Sand Devils advanced to the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship tournament after defeating Ganado 60-38 in the tournament’s second round Friday. It was the third time the Lady Sand Devils and the Lady Hornets have met this season. Page beat them 40- 21 in their first meeting, and 63-42 in their second meeting. The Lady Sand Devils played a fast-paced slashing and passing offense the first two quarters, led by their intense, driving point guard Alyssa Harris.

    The Sand Devils’ amazing season came to a disappointing end Wednesday night in the first round of the state championship tournament when they lost to Monument Valley 58-61. It was the second time in a week Page lost to the Mustangs. Monument Valley beat Page 44-36 a week earlier in the 3A North Tournament. Wednesday’s game was the fourth time the two teams have met this year, with Page defeating Monument Valley the first two times the teams met.
