Leaders in the Texas Senate will hold a news conference Thursday on the passage of two bills that will give homeowners in the state larger tax savings. Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R- Houston) and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will discuss the passage of Senate Bill 4 and Senate Bill 23. SB4 raises the homestead exemption for Texas homeowners to $140,000, while SB23 increases that exemption by another $60,000 for Texans over 65 and those with disabilities.

Two of the top members of Attorney General Ken Paxton's staff were forced to resign from their positions in 2023 over harassment allegations, according to a federal lawsuit. Judd Stone, the former solicitor general, and Chris Hilton, a former assistant attorney general, were sued by another former employee of the attorney general's office. Jordan Eskew claims that she was sexually harassed by Judd and frequently verbally abused by Hilton.

Former employees Judd Stone and Chris Hilton are accused in a federal lawsuit of misconduct, including calling an employee "white trash" and berating her for being late with lunch. The Attorney General's office initiated their resignations after an internal report of their behavior following Paxton's impeachment trial.
