Tensions are high between Israel and IranAll British nationals in Israel should register their presence in the country with the Foreign Office, David Lammy has said. The Foreign Secretary said it would mean they could get information on how to leave the country. He said the Government’s “first priority” was the welfare of British nationals. Mr Lammy said a rapid deployment team was also being sent to Egypt and border crossings were being posted on the Foreign Office website.

Ryland Headley's trial began on MondayAn elderly widow was raped and murdered by a man who broke into her home in a crime which remained under investigation for more than 50 years, a court heard. Ryland Headley is accused of forcing entry into the home of 75-year-old Louisa Dunne in Bristol in June 1967 before attacking her. Headley, now aged 92, is on trial at Bristol Crown Court accused of raping and murdering Mrs Dunne.

Forecasters are expecting temperatures to soar to 32C in the south of the UK by Saturday – and most places will reach temperatures above the heatwave threshold by the weekend. An official heatwave is recorded when areas reach a certain temperature for three consecutive days, with thresholds varying from 25C to 28C in different parts of the UK.
