On Saturday 18 January, two of the Iranian regime’s most barbarous hanging-judges were shot dead in their offices in Tehran. Senior clerics, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghiseh, were killed by a member of the judiciary staff, armed with a handgun, who had access to the tight security of the Palace of Justice. A bodyguard of one of the judges was wounded in the attack. The gunman took his own life before security forces arrived.

Those hanged included 34 women and 7 juvenile offenders, executed after they turned 18.

On January 1st, an interesting op-ed appeared in the Jerusalem Post, penned by Aidin Panahi, an Iranian-American research professor. Titled “How will opposition groups shape post-Islamic regime Iran?” the piece systematically criticized the principal democratic opposition group striving to dismantle Iran’s oppressive theocracy and restore democracy to its 91 million citizens.

The Iranian regime is at its weakest point since Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini hijacked the 1979 revolution to seize power. Their Shi’ite axis of resistance in Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon has crumbled with the decapitation of Hamas and Hezbollah and the fall of the brutal Assad regime. Even Vladimir Putin was unable to save their mutual friend and ally – Bashar al-Assad - from overthrow. Now they face the daunting prospect of another four years with Donald Trump in charge in America.
