The UK Data Service joins the global digital preservation community in marking World Digital Preservation Day on 7 November. World Digital Preservation Day is held each year on the first Thursday of November to highlight the importance of digital preservation. This year’s event will celebrate the diversity of the communities around the world who help preserve digital content. Digital preservation and the UK Data ServicePreservation is a key strategic pillar for the UK Data Service.

We’re delighted to announce that Professor Matthew Woollard, who served as Director of the UK Data Service and UK Data Archive from 2010 to 2023, has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List, which he collected on 18 October, 2024. This richly deserved award recognises the impact Professor Woollard has had in advancing data accessibility and data innovation in the UK and beyond.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the UK Data Service Dissertation Award for the 2024-25 academic year. The award recognises undergraduate social science dissertations that include excellent reuse of data. Undergraduate students can access data from our catalogue once they have registered with their institutional login. The data available covers a wide variety of topics, such as the environment, poverty and living costs, crime, health, labour, opinions and attitudes, and much more.
