    Maya Ellis, MP for Ribble Valley, has welcomed the government’s plans to expand free school meals to more than 500 additional children in her constituency. From September 2026, every child in Ribble Valley whose household is on Universal Credit will become eligible for free school meals. Nationally, the change will make 500,000 more children eligible and is expected to lift 100,000 children across England completely out of poverty.

    Patients and pupils in Ribble Valley are set to benefit from hospital and ambulance site upgrades, as well as school repairs, as part of £1.2 billion in government funding for urgent public infrastructure improvements. Royal Preston Hospital will receive a share of £3.1 million for roof works and a share of £4.7 million for improvements to water, energy and electrical systems, fire safety works, and a replacement nurse call system.

    Maya Ellis, MP for Ribble Valley, has called for urgent action to address mounting traffic chaos caused by recurring incidents on the M6 motorway - securing a commitment from the Roads Minister to meet and discuss long-term solutions. Following another major collision on the M6 between Junctions 31A and 32 on the morning of May 15, which saw the motorway closed for over an hour, Mrs Ellis raised the issue in Parliament directly with the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander.
